‘Shocking Secrets’ author released

A government radio journalist who has been detained for allegedly defaming religion in his book, ‘Asdengach Misteroch’ (Shocking Secrets) has been released on bail yesterday night.

Addis Admass this morning reported that Dawit Alemu, a young journalist who works for Radio Ethiopia, has been detained for fifteen days for allegedly making “damaging” and “misleading” allegations against religions in a book he published pseudonymously.

The paper didn’t disclose the offending parts of the book but said the circulations are now banned and police had seized 1, 900 copies of the overall 3,000 published books.

Dawit was freed on 1,000 Birr bail. Despite prosecutor’s objection to his release, judges decided that the suspect could follow the case outside prison.

Police said they are looking for another of his “collaborator”.
