Abegasu reveals top ten favorites

abegasu
Abegasu Kibrework Shiota is a great musical talent. His recorded output is prolific with hundreds of album credits as composer, producer and arranger.

Yet it seems he shuns publicity. Despite his role in the Ethiopian music and popularity, not much is heard about him.

Now comes a break from that tradition, as Abegasu came to reveal his top ten favorite Amharic songs to Ethiopiaca Link. He refused to rank them. Some are older acts and some newer ones. In the last two, he mentioned only name of singers, not their hits. I was surprised at some of his picks. You might be too.

      Mohamud Ahmed-Ye fekir wotmed

      Girma Beyene –Kanchi Wodiya

Aster Awoke -Ye kosegn Bah Zaf

–   Tewodros Tadesse-Gashe Wellalo

_     Tilahun Gessesse –Ye Tintu Tiz Alegn

_     Teddy Afro -Aynie Kalalaye Alamin Bilo

      Michaih Behaylu -Ye Manew Kebrara

      Natnaeil Ayalew- Addis ken

      Neway Debeb

I love this guy, for such a long time I have seen him behind the Ethiopian music scene and never knew his name. Is he mixed with Asian?, he has that look. Abegaz, you are such a talent and you have done your share in the growth of Ethiopian music. Plus you’re handsome!

Thanks for letting us see his picture. Abegazu whether you are half Japanese or Korean, you are talented and we admire you. I can’t believe he didn’t mention Teshome Metiku’s songs among his favorites. Where is Teshome Mitiku, does any one know?

Abegaz is one of the best kibordists and arrangers I know. He just amazes me so much! He can play almost anything equally good. And he has got endless creativity. And personally, he’s a mellow guy. He is such an inspiration to us all young musicians. I feel honored to have had the chance to play with him. For those of you in Addis we’ve got a jazz festival coming up, so come and enjoy. If you’re his fan these songs he rearranged are gonna blow your minds. Date is June 12 and place TROPICAL GARDEN.

    PEACE

I respect Abegaz rating on those respected Ethiopian musicians songs but I disagree with him for not remembering Teshome Miteku sounds sad unless Abegaz forgot playing and working with Teshome Miteku 1st CD released in Washington, DC back 1983. Any way beauty is on the eyes of the beholder.
