When some three years ago pop singer Zeritu Kebede was asked who was arranging her second album, she came up with unfamiliar name, Samuel Yirga. The interviewer seemed to have no idea who he was. Zeritu profusely described him as someone on his way to becoming a much sought-after person.True, Samuel is rightly considered as one of the rising stars in the new generation of Ethio-jazz musicians, not only in the home front but also overseas. Female pop singer Zeritu Kebede will perform at a special Ethiopian Christmas Eve concert at Alliance Ethio-Française tonight. Accompanied by the group Mehari Brothers, Zertiu will sing Christmas songs and carols from around the world along with her own latest hits.
The concert is to be held with the support of BGI Ethiopia and part of its profit would go to a local NGO called Addis Woubet, “Save Addis Heritage”, an initiative led by Princess Maryam-Tsena Asfaw Wosen, granddaughter of Emperor Haile Selassie.
Zeritu has already performed at the Alliance on the occasion of the Ethiopian Music Festival last year. Her piece ‘Habte’ recorded on the stage with the company of a jazzy group including Henok Temsegen has been included in a CD released recently.
Zeritu who has become a mother to her second child months ago is planning her second album.
