Nelson Mandela:a nation’s icon

Mandela is celebrating his 90th birthday tomorrow, July 18.

The world’s much-loved elder statesman will hold private birthday celebrations in his rural homestead Qunu in the Eastern Cape Province, it was said.

Here is a wonderful tribute from a BBC correspondent who says no matter how often he sees Nelson Mandela, it is always a special moment that makes him feel privileged to live and work in South Africa.

So well said Tesgenet – but he’s also an icon for the WORLD!

Why are there not more ‘Nelson Mandelas’ though? It would be so good for the world if he wasn’t so rare . . . . . .
