A sheep sold for 47, 800 Birr at an auction

A story related with another ostentatious display of wealth in a country where the gap between the rich and the poor rapidly growing.

An ordinary sheep has been sold for 47, 800 Birr at auction held for a hotel inauguration in the outskirts of Addis.

The inauguration of the three-storey building owned by a homegrown millioner, Yilma Workie in Dukem town drew government officials and wealthy businessmen, including Abadula Gemeda, president of the Oromia Regional Sate.

One part of the lavish ceremony was auctioning gifts brought by friends and members.

According to Ethiopiacalink, a piece of cake fetched 12,000 Birr but it was a sheep that sold over the odds, 47, 800 Birr, an amount that could buy a modest car. The wealthy man who bought the sheep gave the cash in hand and also the sheep as a present to the hotel owners.A sign that the wealthy can purchase of fame through “charitable” largess.

    This kind story makes me sick, when so money people are dying of hunger, one/money crook who is/are politically connected spent that much money on a sheep, this is a crime against humanity.
