Arefe,

Many active in today’s politics and those living abroad refuse to wave “weyane” flag. Instead these prefer the old imperial flag (with the Lion) or simply the plain one.

The minority government’s current occupation with “flag day” is a symptom of its desperation as well as a strategy to popularize its nationalistic image. The problem is that Ethiopians have long memory and remember well the minority government’s initial statement that the Ethiopian flag is but a piece of rag fit for retailed salt.

It is still very hard for me to accept is death. How can you accept the death of you father who gave you true love? It is a big loss for me and he is irreplaceable. Words cannot express how much I going to lose him.

May God rest his soul in peace

Dr Berhanu's untimely and sudden death has come as a shock to me, as I was planning to meet him in a few months time in a family reunion. No doubt Ethiopia has lost one of her best and brightest sons. May his soul rest in peace. My thoughts are with the rest of the grieving family.

We were shocked and saddened at hearing the unexpected death of Dr Berhanu, our uncle. He is irreplaceable for us as he was not only un uncle, but also a generous and caring father, specially after the death of our father. His death is undoubtedly a great loss not only to his family but also to all those who have come to know him. We dearly miss him. We will always cherish the memories of his excellent qualities including his unreserved love for fellow mankind. May his soul rest in peace and may God also give the rest of the grieving family the strength during this difficult time and always. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Berhanu was a personal freind and someone I admired greatly for his tireless and enthusiastic work in his field. He was genial, warm and welcoming to visitors.Yet he was also a fiercely private man, working quietly in isolation, writing that is hand-copied with exquiste caligraphic skills. For any historical information, I turned up to him for.He never let me down.Thank you, Berhanu.R.I.P.

I am still shocked that Prossesor Berhanou is no longer with us. It is true that this is not only a loss for Ethiopia it is also a big loss for Africa. Students in Addis Ababa University will never and ever forget how kind, outstanding, amicable and sociable he was. When we were in Gojam Metekel 20 years ago for the resettlement campaign he used to come to my tent looking for me to share his food with me that his beloved wife Fikirte would send for him. He would always come and say, "Elias let us go to my tent, Fikirte has sent some food for us; let us go and share it."
And that's just one example of how kind he was.

May God rest his soul.
