The Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is set to hold an emergency meeting Tuesday, Addis Neger reported.
The Synod is expected to look at recent actions taken by the Patriarch, Abune Pauols such as ‘disbanding the recently formed executive committee, suspending the bishop the Addis Ababa Dioceses and other unlawful hiring and dismissal of church leaders’.
The Synod would judge whether the actions of the Patriarch were within the rules or not.
Responding to his suspension, Abune Samuel, Bishop of the Addis Ababa Diocese, said that it was the Synod who had appointed him and that it could only be the Synod who would remove him from his position.
Chair of the Executive Committee, Abune Timoties was said to have written letter to the Federal Police asking special protection to the session.
In the last Holy Synod session from May14 upto 21, a landmark resolution affecting the administration of the Church endowment was passed. It was decided that Abune Paulos was to hand over administrative power to the committee made up of seven bishops. But the committee was disbanded by the Patriarch weeks later. The decision, apparently without consultation with local churches, sparked doubt about the patriarch’s leadership.

I don’t know about the details of the conflict between the two. But Aba Samue is already my hero. Other fathers who failed to agree with the patriarch flee the church and the country. But he has chouse a different course, to stay here and challenges one of the most powerful persons in the church. Whatever the outcomes, this is a commendable thing to do.

we know that those in the side of abune Samuel are not in conflict for personal benefit. the conflict is between the patriarch and the synod. he do not like to respect the rules and regulations of the church. simply he lkes to lead them with his dectatorial ruling system. now a days they are questioning his ruling system.
Abune Paulos now is kept under question because all his families are under corruption.

hello dear dejeselam.
different people sugest their ideas about the conflict here in ethiopia between the petriarch and the synod. Realy I am sorry for that. I know the detail that for the last 10 days all the pops are in addis ababa dealing about the church. The families of the patriarch are harasing them day and night not to decide something important for the church. Some of them are totaly dependent up on the financial support of abune paulos. so it is not surprising if they harasing the pops. One thins surprising is the intervention of a women who are not a member in “teklay betkihnet”.
But the government is now trying to mediate them to resolve the problem through peace. I would like to appreciate the government’s approach to solve it by the rules and regulations of the church.
